Regarding the new studio, we plan to move directly from the old studio into the new with no downtime at all. Hell we might even keep the pair of them going for a while!

After 19 years of leasing premises, We are set to move into our own building.

Thanks to greedy landlords, we have signed a contract on our own property. After considering a number of properties, I'm feeling confident that this one will be special.

Media Exposure (see woz pics)

A number of papers and radio stations have been after Woz for interviews regarding backyard tattooing and the easy access to cheap tattoo equipment. Quest newspapers and The Sunday Mail have run an article. ABC radio AM612 did a live interview for the breakfast show and Sunshine coast radio did a pre-recorded interview. There has also been interest from Channel7 and the Courier Mail want to do a more in depth story.
Warren has had a lot of involvement in health matters and this publicity will help the push for further improvements to the industry.

Friday the 13th

Woz, Brett and Ben spent the day hanging out with the bros. at True Love Tattoo.
It is a tradition over there to do $20 tatts
on friday 13th. You get one set of flash to choose from and no changes to them.
After the high level custom work we do it is good to belt out some little no brainers…..and drink beer. Good times!

Tattoo Show Win!

Woz struck again at the Sin The Skin Tattoo Show at Acacia Ridge Hotel in March. He took out Best Back and also won the Portrait Section of the INK OFF live tattooing competition.
He was up against one of the countries best portrait and black and grey artists.There is some friendly rivalry between Brano and Woz regarding what equipment they use. Magnums VS Hairy Mary's. Woz doesn't use magnums, which bemuses many tattooers, so Woz got to prove his point. He is still winning trophies after nearly 20 years. Rock on!

Woz and julie are back from Coolangatta after a weeks holiday. The Beatniks Car Club was hanging out in full strength on the dirt lot again and we had a member and his wife over from the USA. It was great to see Henry and Janelle here for the week.
Organisers are shifting the festival to Port Maquarie, but they might be the only ones going as everyone i spoke to was going back to Coolangatta regardless.

Preparing a Portfolio for the Tattoo Industry

In 2010 Warren ran a small class for a few eager young artists who were keen to enter the tattoo Industry. Warren has spent numerous hours giving pointers to prospective apprentices. The majority have very weak portfolios, poorly presented with many of the same basics mistakes. This course was all about art psesentation and preparation for entry into the tattoo industry, NOT about tattooing itself.

You need solid art skills before considering approaching a studio for an apprenticeship. You also need an open mind and not be afraid of constructive criticism. A lot of the general public know little about solid art design and theory, so it is not hard to keep busy as a tattooist.; especially if you offer cheap work. The problem is that it is very hard to progress as an artist if you are busy tattooing. So many amatuer tattooists are locked in a cycle of producing poor quality and/or poorly designed tattoo work, they don't have time to work on their own skills.

2 of the students who did the course in 2010 now have jobs at Vision Skin Tatoo. Warren was going to conduct these lessons for the general public, but with the influx of new tattoo studios he now considers it to be more conterproductive for the industry. The course will now only be conducted in the future for the lucky select few who may be considered for apprenticeships at Vision Skin Tattoo.
